The Fourth World is Right Here: Surviving the Nation Called Canada

Announcement of start of project

Basic information about the start of the project.

This is just a short announcement that on Wednesday, March 18th, the project “The Fourth World is Right Here: Surviving the Nation called Canada” will begin. The general though not specific itinerary is: Montreal—BC, and then BC—Arctic/sub-Arctic north/Denendeh. Return route unclear. Along the way, I have received invitations to visit a number of Nations who are facing threats to their survival, environmental in particular. My main destination is to attend a conference in the Mackenzie Valley that will discuss indigenous response to the proposed largest industrial project in Canada’s history, held by the Arctic Indigenous Youth Alliance.

For reasons of research, finance and simple preference, the method of travel will be hitchhiking.

Information on nations whose struggles need to be brought “above the radar” to many non-indigenous Canadians will have interviews and issues described here:

this is the main page of the project.

photo galleries will be here, as well as links to recent hitchhiking stories:

The main hitchhiking list is here:

As well, the National Film Board has decided to set up a blog and photogallery; details on that will be announced as that is up and functioning.

While I’m on the road, obviously please give me a few days to reply to you. Thanks for understanding. I’ll have two separate addresses for contact: one, the usual mstainsby@resist.ca, as well as the mouthful: macdonaldstainsby@yahoo.ca

I look forward to seeing you all soon enough.
